Programme

In the last few years we have had a programme that was announced at one of the meetings and covered a few meetings into the future. A full year’s programme has not been possible since the pandemic but may be sorted out in the future again.

At every meeting we have a show and tell session where members bring along items they have been making – not confined to machine knitting some of these are other hand crafts or dressmaking. There are many very innovative and clever crafters in our group.

At some of our club evenings we look in greater depth at one aspect of machine knitting and everybody is free to offer their help and advice. Many good tips and pieces of advice are gleaned from these evenings. We have a club machine on which one of the more experienced members may demonstrate a technique and others may try it out if they choose to.

At others there is a workshop style evening when people try other crafts like crochet or hand knitting to make small fun projects like Christmas tree decorations or babies booties. Both crochet and hand knitting can be used in conjunction with machine knitting to enhance a project or making up.

We’ve also look at the use of sewing machines and overlockers as well as steamers when discussing how to finish and join garments.

Outings are very occasionally arranged to museums, knitting fairs and exhibitions. However there are far fewer events held now particularly in the South East of England.
